Knowledge handed down from generation to generation

In the Andean-Amazon rainforest of southern Colombia, on the border with Ecuador and Peru, in the department of Putumayo — across its upper, middle and lower regions — there is a great cultural wealth made up of Indigenous communities who, within its vast vegetation, hold deep ancestral and cultural knowledge handed down from generation to generation, so that this great spiritual and cultural wealth is not forgotten with the passing of time.

A night of connection

A bonfire to close the retreat

Our friend Waskar, with his companions, joins us for a bonfire night at our hostel to close a beautiful retreat.

In the Amazon foothills of Mocoa – Putumayo, at night one feels a spiritual connection descended from ancestral traditions that can still be lived today. Yagé ceremonies led by taitas of lineage are a connection people seek to support or heal themselves in their personal processes.

The lunar cycle is a connection between plants, animals, water and earth that influences our daily lives, and is deeply important in our spiritual processes.

Frequently asked questions

What is a yagé (ayahuasca) ceremony?

Yagé, also known as ayahuasca, is an ancestral Amazonian medicine prepared and guided by taitas (elder healers) of Putumayo. The ceremony is a ritual space for introspection and healing, held at night, in a group and fully accompanied, in a natural setting near Mocoa.

Who guides the ceremonies?

The ceremonies are led by taitas of Putumayo lineage, with knowledge passed down from generation to generation. Their guidance —songs, care and experience— is the heart of the ceremony.

Is it safe to take part in a yagé ceremony?

You are accompanied at all times by the taita and their team, in a safe setting. Before the ceremony we talk about your health and your expectations: some medical conditions or medications may be incompatible, so it is important to let us know in advance.

How should I prepare?

We recommend a light diet in the days before (avoiding alcohol, red meat and heavily spiced food), and arriving rested and open. Once your place is confirmed we share the full preparation guidelines.
