In short
The most common way to reach Mocoa is overland, and the journey is already part of the adventure. From Pasto it's about 145 km (6–8 h) along the legendary Trampolín de la Muerte; from Pitalito (Huila), roughly 4–5 h on a calmer road; and from Bogotá you come down through Neiva and Pitalito. Prefer to fly? The nearest airport is Villagarzón; Puerto Asís lies farther away. Tell us where you're coming from and we'll help with the last stretch.
Where is Mocoa?
Before we look at timetables and routes, let's get our bearings. Mocoa is the capital of Putumayo, in south-western Colombia, right where the Andes surrender to the jungle: the Amazon foothills. We're at around 600 metres of altitude, with heat, humidity and a green that never stops. It's the gateway to the Colombian Amazon, and getting here is already half the trip.

From Pasto (Nariño): the Trampolín de la Muerte
The most famous route comes down from Pasto: about 145 km that, depending on the day and the weather, take 6 to 8 hours. The trip crosses the Sibundoy Valley (Alto Putumayo) and, from San Francisco, the mythical stretch begins: the Trampolín de la Muerte, some 80 km opened in 1944, largely single-lane, carved between clouds and cliffs. It's as feared as it is spectacular, and it's no place to rush: take it slowly, by day, with a trusted driver.
A road carved between clouds and cliffs, as feared as it is spectacular: the journey is already part of the destination.
From Pitalito and Neiva (Huila)
Prefer a calmer way in? If you're coming from central Colombia, coming down through Neiva and Pitalito (Huila) is usually the most comfortable: a better-maintained road and around 4–5 hours from Pitalito. Less adrenaline, more serene scenery —a good option if the Trampolín gives you pause.
From Bogotá
From Bogotá you have two paths. Overland, via Neiva–Pitalito–Mocoa: a long trip many split into stages (often an overnight bus to Pitalito and on to Mocoa). Or fly to a nearby airport and finish by road, if you want to save time.
By air
Mocoa has no commercial airport, so flying always means a final road transfer. The nearest is Villa Garzón Airport, in Villagarzón, less than an hour from the house: Satena flies direct from Bogotá (around 1 h 40). As an alternative there's Tres de Mayo, in Puerto Asís —with Satena and Avianca flights— but it's considerably farther. Book ahead: frequencies change from season to season.

How to reach Luna Eco Casa
And the last stretch? We're in Vereda Villa Nueva, kilometre 3, about 3 km (10 minutes) from the centre of Mocoa. From the terminal you arrive by taxi or motorbike; as soon as you confirm your arrival we send you the exact location on WhatsApp and, if needed, arrange for someone to meet you. Here your home in Putumayo begins.
- Travel by day whenever you can, especially on the Trampolín.
- In the rainy season, check road conditions before setting out.
- Bring some cash: ATMs are scarce outside the centre.
- Message us before you travel and we'll advise you based on where you're coming from.
