In short
Mocoa has a warm, humid climate and it rains all year round: there is no marked dry season. It tends to rain less between December and February and mid-year (June–August), while the wettest months tend to be March–May and October–November. Any time is good to visit; only the amount of rain changes.
Mocoa's climate
Mocoa sits in the Amazon foothills, at around 600 metres of altitude, with a warm, humid climate all year round, pleasant temperatures and high humidity. Rain is part of the landscape: it is what keeps the jungle green and the waterfalls full.
In the foothills you don't travel against the rain, but with it: it's what fills the waterfalls and keeps the jungle alive.
Seasons: when it rains more and less
There is no dry season as such, but there are variations. It tends to rain less between December and February and during a mid-year period (roughly June–August). The wettest months tend to be March–May and October–November. These are trends, not rules: the Amazon climate changes from year to year.

How rain affects your trip
Rain mainly affects three things. First, the level of rivers and waterfalls: Fin del Mundo or the Hornoyaco run fuller and more impressive after rain, but also more dangerous. Second, the state of the mountain roads, such as the Trampolín (San Francisco–Mocoa stretch), with possible landslides or delays in the peak season. And third, how comfortable the hikes are, with more slippery trails. That's why we recommend going with local guides, who know the day's conditions.
So, when should you go?
If your priority is hiking and calmer roads, aim for the less rainy periods (December–February, June–August). If you want to see the waterfalls at their fullest, the rainy season makes them spectacular, with more caution. In truth the jungle is beautiful all year round; the key is to come prepared.
