How much it costs to travel to Mocoa: budget guide

Luna Eco Casa · Updated 29 September 2026

In short

Mocoa is an affordable destination compared with other places in Colombia. Your main costs are lodging, transport to get there, guided tours and food. With options ranging from a hammock and camping to a private room, it fits almost any budget.

Lodging

This is where you can adjust your budget the most. At Luna Eco Casa you go from the cheapest option —hammocks and camping in the garden— to shared rooms and private rooms with a bathroom. The open kitchen and common areas are shared, which helps you save on meals.

In Mocoa you set the budget: from a hammock facing the jungle to a private room, Putumayo doesn't demand luxury to give you everything.

Transport to get there

The cost depends on how you arrive. Overland —bus or shared transport from Pasto, Pitalito or Bogotá— is usually the cheapest. Flying to Villagarzón (Satena flies direct from Bogotá) or Puerto Asís is faster, but pricier, and you have to add the final road transfer. See our how-to-get-there guide for the routes.

Tours and guides

Waterfalls, canyons and trails are visited with local guides, and the cost changes with the destination, the duration and the group size. A nearby outing like the Salto del Golondrino is lighter on the wallet than a full day to Fin del Mundo or the Dantayaco Canyon. Travelling together lowers the price per person; we coordinate the guides from the house.

Food and extras

Local food is affordable, especially if you make use of the shared kitchen and the markets. Add extras such as renting a motorbike or bike to get around on your own, cheaper than hiring transport for every outing.

How to save

A few tips: travel in a group to split guides and transport, choose a hammock, camping or a shared room, cook at the house and get around by rented bike or motorbike. Outside the high season it tends to be easier and cheaper.

  • Travel in a group to split the cost of guides and transport.
  • Choose lodging to match your budget (hammock → private room).
  • Use the shared kitchen to save on meals.
  • Rent a motorbike or bike to get around on your own.
  • Bring cash: ATMs are limited outside the centre.
